“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light” Genesis 1:1-3.
LIGHT FOR NOW: It is because of salvation that we have Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
From the analysis done so far, we are beginning to see that the bible opens up with the utterance of salvation and this will become very clear shortly. Remember that the utterance of verse 3 of the above text is the person of Jesus and this encapsulates God’s salvation plan found in Him. So God’s first utterance was Christ, and why Christ? The answer is for the salvation of humanity. Recall that light shining out of darkness is salvation (John 1:1-5). Also, the terminologies “face of the deep” and “face of waters” were descriptive terminologies for man; that is, man in darkness, man that is “tohoboho” (nothing, nothing) or man that is empty of the light. Recall also, life is in the light (eternal life in salvation which is in the saviour), and thus, death will be in darkness. In other words, the statement “the earth was without form and void; darkness was upon the face of the deep” was to show us the state of man without Christ, that is, man without Christ is dead (spiritual death), man without Christ is empty, man without Christ is nothing, man without Christ is in a state of emergency (he/she needs immediate help). Man cannot afford to be without Christ. Follow carefully and you will soon see that salvation is reactionary, salvation was not a plan B, salvation was not an afterthought; salvation was God’s plan even before man ever thought of falling.
Recall, man was formed in Genesis 2:7, but in Genesis 1:2, we have already seen man in a state of darkness/death/sin in prophetic utterance. Now, what is the solution to the state of man in darkness? The next statement in verse 2 into 3 answers the question, “And the spirit of God moved… And said light be”. Remember, “face of waters” is in reference to man, and also recall that in verse 3, one of the inference we saw is that “father said son” and this was to point to the incarnation where God will become a man to save the fallen man. And so we said the trinity (father, son and Holy Ghost) is for the purpose of salvation. Father, son and Holy Ghost are not different Gods seating down in three different chairs/thrones. It is because of salvation that we have Father, Son, Holy Ghost, and we have seen Father and Son in the explanation so far. Let’s look at the Holy Ghost in next study. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION:Be full of the word.
PRAYER: The revelation of your word comes alive in me, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: Salvation plan is the reason God (the Father) became the son (Christ the man) so that as a man He can die for the fallen man and upon resurrection the Father who became the son will now become the Holy Ghost dwelling in our hearts.
