“To open their eyes, and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me” – Acts 26:18
LIGHT FOR NOW: Always have a working knowledge of what is known and not just head knowledge of what is known.
We’ve come to establish that knowing God by mental assent is not God’s desire for us, God desires that we have a working knowledge of Him and not just have head knowledge of Him. We saw an instance of mental assent in the place of prayer in our previous studies. And we saw that having the exegesis on prayer is not equivalent to praying. You can know all you want to know about prayer , but if you are not praying then you are not effective. And we said that the effectiveness of prayer boils down to praying and not knowing. If you like be a working epignosis of prayer, if you are not praying, then the person who is praying but does not know is more effective than you who knows but does not pray. Let’s see another instance of mental assent. You know a person can have the details of walking in love and yet, he himself is not walking in love. Of course, such a person may know the Greek, Hebrew and didactic analysis of the love walk, but he himself is keeping grudges; he is backbiting and gossiping others; he cannot meet the needs of others even when he/she has the capacity; he/she lives in dishonour in the local assembly, etc. Such a person only had mental assent of the love walk, he/she did not allow what he knew transcend into what he does. God’s word is not just to be known, God’s word is to be acted upon.
That said; let’s now begin to establish some fundamentals on forgiveness as it will set the premise on which we will begin to examine the facts stated in day one of our study. Notice, Paul in our opening text says “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me” (Acts 26:18). So, one of the first things to note is that forgiveness of sins is received. For it to be received, it thus means it has been made available. So the questions that will be answered as we proceed in this study in subsequent days are:
- How forgiveness of sins was made available?
- Who made forgiveness of sins available?
- How is forgiveness of sins going to be received or how is forgiveness of sins received?
Notice, after Paul says “that they may receive forgiveness of sins”, he further says “and inheritance”. What could he mean? This will be answered in subsequent studies. Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: Don’t only know the word, act on the word.
PRAYER: As my eyes open up to your word as it unveils my realities to me, I declare that I walk in it, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: You have not well known the word until you have a working knowledge of the word and not just mental ascent.
