“Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,” – Ephesians 1:15-19
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus who is the word birthed the born again man.
Having seen carefully in our analysis so far, it is clear that the word of God is a person. But the knowledge or revelation of this person is in a book called the bible. Hence, why it suffices us to say that:
- The bible is God’s written word.
- Jesus is God’s living word.
And the reason for the written word is the living word, hence why Jesus is the message of the bible. That said, let’s backtrack to 1Peter 1:23 for further analysis, it reads “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever”. Again, observe the Amplified rendering of this verse, it reads “You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting word of God”. So, it’s now clear that when the King James Version said “by the word of God which liveth and abideth forever” which the Amplified bible rendered as “by the ever living and lasting word of God”, it was in reference to the person of Jesus. So, can we now say boldly that Jesus is the word of God? Yes, we can. Can we also say that the bible is the word of God? Yes, but why? This is because there in (the bible) is the revelation of the person of Jesus. In other words, the living word (Jesus) is what/who makes the written word (the bible) to be called the word of God. So, what then gives substantiality to the bible? Jesus.
Now, having understood the implication of the term “by the word of God which liveth and abideth forever”, in our subsequent studies, we are going to handle the terminology “born again” used by Peter here and later on unbundle what it means to be born of the incorruptible seed, and then finally bring it down on the implication of this analysis on generational, foundational, ancestral problem/covenant problems/issues. However, don’t forget the fact that Jesus who is the word birthed you.
INSTRUCTION: Acknowledge your realities.
