“Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,” – Ephesians 1:15-19
LIGHT FOR NOW: Your birth as a new creation was not of a natural procreation. So you are not a product of a natural generation.
We’ve clearly come to understand from our analysis so far what the word of God is; we’ve explained it in two faces:
- The written word (the bible).
- The living word (the person of Jesus; who is the message of the bible).
That seen clearly, lets backtrack to Apostle Peter’s words again in 1Peter 1:23 which reads, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever”. So from the analysis so far, will the term “by the word of God” here be in reference to a book or a person? A person (Jesus); this person is the incorruptible seed we are born of; He is the living word who is the message of the written word. So without much ado, the “logos” here is a person, having also seen how it was used in John 1. Let’s hear James in the line of this, he says “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures” (James 1:17-18). James (just like Peter) in the above text is talking about God’s good and perfect gift (verse 17) and he was not referring to a car or house, rather he explains the good and perfect gift in context as the born again man (in verse 18). When he said “of his own will begat he us with the word of truth”, he was talking about the born again man. Again, the word “word” is used here (word of truth) translated from the same Greek word “logos” and again is in reference to the person of Jesus because he is the word of truth. Apostle John in Revelation makes it more clearly, it reads “And he was clothed in vesture dipped in blood: and his name called the word of God” (Revelation 19:13). So, Jesus is the word of God. So, the incorruptible seed we are born of is Christ (who is the word of God); this is what James explains as being born from above which in other words means this birth is not natural or it is not of a natural procreation or generation.
In our proceeding studies, we will now begin to investigate the impact of this carefully unbundling the fact that this man who is not of a natural generation/procreation has no business with generational problems, curses, ancestral problems, foundational problems, etc. Believers who have been made to believe that they are having any of these generational problems are suffering from identity crisis. So, let’s continue learning and also unlearn and relearn where necessary.
