“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” – Isaiah 53:3-7
LIGHT FOR NOW:Jesus is the light of the world.
In the course of this study, we have come to establish that when Moses spoke of light in Genesis 1:3, he was speaking of the person of Christ and by implication, salvation in Christ where we have a humanity of men who are indwelt by Him (the light). That is why Paul in his words in 2Corinthians 4:6 implied men that are indwelt by Jesus. John 8:12 also implied men (the light will shine in the hearts of men and a man followeth Him shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life). So, in Genesis 1:3, we have men who are of the lights or indwelt by the light or born of the light. That’s why Jesus will say in Matthew 5:14 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hidden”. James also echoes in chapter 1 verses 17 and 18 of his epistles which reads “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow nor turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures” (James 1:17-18). So James calls God the father of lights and then describes the new creature (who is the good and perfect will of God) as an offspring of the father of lights. So, just like God is light, the new creature (the born again man) is of the light. So, still in Genesis 1:3, we have the new creature and it is because of salvation that the born again man (the new creature is implied). So, the man born of God is born of the Father of light, and thus by virtue of this man being indwelt by Christ the light he is an offspring of the Father of light. The apostle John in his first epistle echoes this, “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all” (1John 1:5). So Jesus who is God is absolute light and there is no darkness in him at all. Hallelujah!
