“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” – Matthew 24:14
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus became sin for us on the cross.
In our previous studies, we saw that the death in the garden was the separation of man from God. Jesus therefore will have to taste this death to pay for man. Meaning, the death of Jesus for us on the cross was a separation from God. Recall the cry of Jesus in Matthew 27:46 was not a lamentation but a declaration. This is to say, Jesus was not lamenting rather He was declaring His status. He was dead yet speaking just like Adam in the garden was dead yet speaking. Now, let us look at the spirit of truth in the Epistles as He plainly explains the cross to us. Paul in his letter to the Galatians church in Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law; being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree”. So, Jesus became a cursed thing on that cross just because of the love he has for mankind and under the law, look at what happens to such a cursed thing, it reads “his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance” (Deuteronomy 21:23).
Paul saw this (Deuteronomy 21:23) in Galatians 3:13. But here is the difference; in the garden, man moved from God; on the cross, God moved to die. God called out for man in the garden. Man (Jesus His son) called out for God on the cross. The former was man enduring the penalty for His sin, the latter is substitution. In 2 Corinthians 5:21, Paul by the spirit keeps unveiling what happened to Jesus on the cross for us. It reads “for he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”. On the cross Jesus becomes sin for us. Let’s hear from Isaiah in prophecy in Isaiah 53:3-6. It reads “he is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised and we esteem him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows: yet we esteem him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed. All we have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid upon him the iniquity of us all”. Hallelujah!!!
