“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come”-Matthew 24:14
LIGHT FOR NOW: Man without Christ is dead.
The state of the unsaved man needs help!; this man may be walking or talking but he is dead spiritually and it takes a life giving spirit (that is a believer) to minister the word of life to him via preaching it for him to come out of that state of spiritual death to spiritual life in Christ Jesus where eternal life is imparted into his spirit. Recall, in previous study we saw that man in Eden died and that death was his separation from God.
And from the way Paul explains it in Ephesians 1:1-3, it is clear this man (without Christ or separated from God) is dead but walking; dead but talking; dead towards God but alive towards sin. Let’s see Adam’s observation about his state. When he had Seth, Seth upon having Enos discovered by observation what happened. Genesis 5:6-7 makes this clear, it reads “And Seth lived an hundred and five years and begat Enos: And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.” He now birthed sons in his fallen image (that is death); Enos means captive and slave of death. Paul in Romans 5:14 echoes “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses , even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is a figure of him that was to come”. This death is the separation of man from God. Jesus would have to taste this death to pay for man. His death for us was not limited to the separation from the spirit from the body; it must be separation from God.
What happened to Jesus will further bring elucidation to this fact. Matthew 27:46 will give us a lead. It reads “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli Eli, lama sabacthani? That is to say, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me”? Jesus in this passage was not lamenting but was declaring his status. He was dead yet speaking. He was dead on the cross and was quoting the scriptures He came to fulfill. David had foreseen this. Psalms 22:1 makes this clear. It reads, “my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring”? All of those at the scene were dumbfounded. They never saw what was happening. It will take the spirit to unveil this to us. When the spirit came, He showed us the reality of Jesus’ cry and this we will keep investigating into in our proceeding studies. Hallelujah!!!
