“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ” – Philemon 1:6
LIGHT FOR NOW: Your Christian life is effective on how much you know who you are in Christ.
To arrive at a full clarity of the above text, keywords which make up the text must be explained and understood. The word “communication” in the above text was translated from the Greek word “koinonia” which implies fellowship, sharing, partnership. What then will be the communication of his faith in this text? The communication of his faith here is his Christian walk. Thus, faith in this text was used in reference to the Christian walk, which is the Christian life. Observe another word used in the above text; it is the word “effectual” which implies active or effective.
In essence, Paul is saying that the communication (that is, the Christian walk) is effective by the acknowledging of every good thing we have in Christ. Note that the word acknowledging implies precise understanding. So, how then is the communication of our faith effectual (Christian life)? Its effectiveness is tied to our acknowledging of our realities in Christ. Thus, we can rightly say that the degree to which the believer knows who he is in Christ is the degree to which his Christian life is effective. That is, your Christian life is as effective as the knowledge of Christ you have.
Thus, the place of the believer acknowledging his realities in Christ cannot be out of place if he must walk in the fullness of his realities. The believer will not know what he has in Christ, if he doesn’t know who he is. The believer cannot know what he can do in Christ if he doesn’t know what he has in Christ in the revelation of who he is in Christ. Thus, the believer cannot afford ignorance because the ignorance of his realities will make him live less of his realities in Christ. Therefore, the place of knowledge, accurate information, precise understanding of who the believer is really is what the believer has and moreover what the believer can do is essential in the life of every believer if such a believer must walk in the robust of his realities; this emphasizes the need for knowledge. The greatest gift a believer can have/receive after being saved is the gift of having a sound teacher who will teach him what it means to be saved. Sadly, many believers who are saved lack an understanding of what salvation fully entails. The cure for this will be the accurate knowledge of God’s word. Therefore, if your realities must reflect in your walk, then go for knowledge.
INSTRUCTION: Knowledge is so essential for every believer, you need to know this.
PRAYER: Father, I receive understanding from your word as I am taught, as I ponder on it and meditate on it. Your word in me finds expression through me, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: You are as effective in your Christian walk as you are as effective in the knowledge of the word.
