“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus” – Romans 5:17
LIGHT FOR NOW: You have the nature of God in you.
In Apostle Paul’s letter to the Roman church in the above text, three things as it relates to righteousness stands out. The first is that righteousness is a gift. The second is that it is received and not worked for by the recipient if he is the one receiving it; the one who worked for it (Jesus Christ) is the one giving it. The third is that, righteousness is by one or is in one person who is Jesus Christ.
Thus, it suffices to say that, righteousness is a gift to be received when one believes in the one who this gift is found in. Righteousness is the believer status in Christ; it is a state and not a reward of good works. Good works are good but good works cannot equate righteousness; good morals are good but morality can’t be equated to righteousness; good characters, believers and lifestyles are good but they can’t be equated to righteousness. By the time you equate good works, good morals, lifestyles, behaviors, etc to righteousness or you are saying that righteousness is dependent upon them, then you are being work conscious. And if righteousness is any of the above, then it is no more a gift but something we have to work for. Paul in Romans 5:17 make it clear that righteousness is a gift (it is a gift of God that we have in Christ or a gift of God found only in Christ). Therefore, good morals outside Christ (the unbeliever) is not equated to righteousness; same way, good morals inside Christ (the believer) is not what makes the believer righteous or brings the state of righteousness to the believer. Faith in Christ is what makes a man righteous. Good conducts, characters, behaviors, habits, attitudes and lifestyle of a believer are a proof of spiritual growth (they are a proof that you are growing in the word; that is, your mind has been renewed by the word). Note, it is not the spiritual growth that brings righteousness; righteousness is at work in you by faith in Christ but spiritual growth which is growth in knowledge is what equips you to give expression to your realities in your conducts, behaviors, attitudes and lifestyle in general. Thus, the believer who does right is not doing right by righteousness, he is already righteous. What he does, does not change who he is, it is who he is that changes what he does; all of this functions in knowledge. Hence, the believer must of a necessity know his realities and not just know his realities but he must give expression to his realities and walk in his realities. Glory!!!
INSTRUCTION: Your Christian walk is as effective as the knowledge of Christ you have.
PRAYER: I declare that righteousness is the nature of my spirit, I have the nature of Christ in me and I give expression to my nature because I am a walking expression of Christ here on earth, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: What you do does not change who you are, it is who you are that changes what you do.
