“For he had made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” – 2Corinthians 5:21.
LIGHT FOR NOW: Irrespective of your past record, the day you arrive in Christ, you are righteous.
Righteousness is the believer’s status by virtue of being in Christ. Having known that righteousness is a gift from God and it’s not what you can do, the question is, what then is righteousness? Righteousness means to be able to stand before God without blame, fault or feeling of guilt. The recipient of this gift is seen by God as blameless, guiltless or faultless; meaning that righteousness is having a right standing with God or to be without blame or guilt before God. Righteousness is also the ability to stand before God without sin consciousness, inferiority complex and fear. This is a condition where a man appears blameless before God. On what grounds can we stand before God without feelings of guilt? Christ Jesus is the only ground by which we can approach God without feelings of guilt or condemnation. In John’s synoptic gospel, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me” (John 14:6). Observe the phrase “no man cometh unto the father, but by me”; meaning that Jesus is the only access to the father. Jesus is the only perfect legal ground upon which a believer approaches the father without blame, why? It’s because Jesus is blameless before the father, and the believer is in Christ; blameless before God. Therefore, righteousness is equality with God. Outside Christ, a man has no legal ground to stand on the basis of equality with God. Paul’s words in Romans 3:22, “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference”. Paul lets us see in this text that the righteousness of God is by faith in Christ Jesus. Righteousness is who you are to God in Christ; we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. There is nothing that you can ever do to change that which you have in Christ. Faith in Christ is the legal ground upon which we stand and this is our base of equality with God. Hallelujah!!!
