“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first and also to the Greek”. Romans 1:16.
LIGHT FOR NOW: The preaching of the Cross is the Gospel
The word Gospel has been widely mis-interpreted and applied by church folks. The Gospel does not refer to the numerous miracles performed by the Lord when He walked the Earth. The Gospel simply means the good news about Christ – what He did that will benefit the entirety of humankind for eternity. The good news ought to positively affect not just the first-century Jews, but also the Gentile who would come to the knowledge of Christ. By this scope, it is logical to think of the good news as glad tidings relevant or needed by all, irrespective of age, race belief and religion.
Definitely, it bothers on Christ’s suffering, His death, burial, resurrection and ascension to glory. To be of great impact to everyone, it must be preached. And it must be believed! The Cross of Christ is the gospel because the salvation of man was made possible. Every man needs the Savior – Jesus Christ. Christ must be preached; He must be believed by all who want to be saved. According to Romans 1:1-4, Apostle Paul was a servant of Jesus Christ. Though he was not among the twelve disciples, but by revelation he was called and separated unto the preaching of the gospel of Christ. We can hear him (the Apostle Paul) loud and clear as he says that he is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ – the saviour of the world. Paul had the revelation that the Gospel was the power of God and this gave him the boldness to speak. This power of God is made manifest through the finished work on the Cross.
The power of God is not in the oil or in the mantle but in believers’ faith in the Gospel. The power of God is not in rolling on the ground, neither is it in inspirational messages. The power of God is not the testimony of having a job, getting married and having children. The power of God is in the Gospel. For instance, the prayer of faith in the finished work at the Cross saves the sick (James 5:14-15). And the finished work at the Cross is the Gospel. With it, ‘all these things are given to’believers (Matthew 6:33 [NIV]).Miracles are products of the Gospel. There is power in the Gospel. When preached, there is an invisible force that changes things in the hearts and lives of men.
Instruction: Believe the gospel and speak out boldly.
Prayer:I stand on the finished work on the cross. I am the manifestation of the power of God.
Quote: The gospel is a person (Christ) and not things.
