SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT (15)

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” – Ephesians 4:30

LIGHT FOR NOW: The Holy Spirit’s seal points beyond our present experience to the completion of God’s redemptive work. We have the Spirit now, but we are moving toward the day when redemption will reach its full consummation.

Paul says that we are “sealed unto the day of redemption”. Notice the direction in the language. The seal points forward. God’s work in us is not disconnected from the future He has promised. The Greek word sphragizo, which we have encountered earlier, means to seal, mark, or authenticate. God has marked us by His Spirit as belonging to Him, and that seal points toward the day of redemption.
What is this redemption? Paul is not saying that believers have received nothing yet. We have already experienced redemption through Christ. We have forgiveness, reconciliation, the indwelling Spirit, and a new relationship with God. Yet Scripture also speaks of a future dimension of redemption. Romans 8:23 says that we “wait for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body”. Our spirits have been made alive in Christ, but our bodies still await the fullness of resurrection.
There is therefore an already and not yet dimension to salvation. Already redeemed, not yet fully consummated. Already possessing the Spirit; still awaiting the fullness of resurrection glory. Already belonging to Christ; still awaiting the day when what God has begun will be completely manifested. This gives the believer hope. Our future is not uncertain because God’s Spirit is already present as His pledge. The Holy Spirit is the divine connection between what Christ has accomplished and what God will finally bring to completion.
This is why Paul can speak about the believer’s future with confidence. The Spirit in us is evidence that God’s redemptive purpose is still moving toward its appointed completion. So when life feels incomplete, remember: Incomplete does not mean abandoned. There are things God has begun that will find their fullness in the age to come. Your body may still experience weakness. Your circumstances may still contain unanswered questions. Your journey may still contain areas of growth. But the Spirit within you points toward a coming fullness.
One day, redemption will no longer be experienced merely by faith. It will be fully manifested. And until that day, we live by the Spirit, anchored in Christ and filled with hope. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: When you encounter weakness, uncertainty, or incompleteness today, remember the future promised by God. Let the presence of the Holy Spirit strengthen your hope and keep your eyes on Christ.

CONFESSION: I am sealed with the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. I belong to God, I possess His Spirit, and I await the fullness of redemption with hope. My future is secured in Christ, and I remain steadfast in faith until the day of His complete redemptive work, in Jesus Name.  Amen.
