“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” – Galatians 3:26
LIGHT FOR NOW: The Holy Spirit’s presence is deeply connected to our identity as God’s children. We are not merely religious people trying to reach God; through faith in Christ, we have been brought into the family of God.
The gospel does more than forgive our sins. It brings us into a relationship with God as His children. Paul says, “Ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus”. Notice the foundation: “in Christ Jesus”. Our sonship is not based on human achievement. It is rooted in our union with Christ. Romans 8:15 gives us an even deeper picture: “Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father”.
The Holy Spirit therefore does not merely make us conscious that God exists. He makes us conscious of our relationship with God. The word huiothesia, translated “adoption,” literally carries the idea of being placed as a son. It describes the gracious act by which God gives us the status and privileges of His children. This changes the way we approach God. A slave relates to a master primarily through obligation. A child relates to a father through relationship. This does not remove reverence or obedience. Rather, obedience now flows from relationship instead of being an attempt to earn acceptance.
The Holy Spirit bears witness to this relationship within us. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”. There is therefore an inward testimony. The Spirit reminds us of who we are. When condemnation says, “You are rejected”, the Spirit bears witness: “You belong to the Father”. When fear says, “You are alone”, the Spirit reminds you: “You have a Father”. When you feel spiritually distant, the answer is not to invent a new identity.
Return to what God has already declared in Christ. You are His child. And the Spirit within you continually points your heart toward the Father. This is one of the beautiful realities of being sealed with the Holy Spirit: God’s Spirit does not merely mark you as belonging to Him; He teaches you to live from that belonging. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Today, approach God consciously as your Father. Let your prayers come from sonship, not insecurity. Honour Him, obey Him, and trust Him as one who knows that you belong to Him.
CONFESSION: I am a child of God through faith in Christ Jesus. I have received the Spirit of adoption, and I have access to the Father. I refuse to live from fear and rejection. I live from sonship, confidence, love, and fellowship with my Father, in Jesus Name. Amen.
