SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT (2)

“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” – Ephesians 1:13

LIGHT FOR NOW: The Holy Spirit’s seal is connected to our response to the gospel. When we hear and believe the truth concerning Christ, God marks us with His Spirit as belonging to Him.

Paul gives us a beautiful sequence in this verse: “Ye heard… ye believed… ye were sealed”. The gospel was first heard. Faith does not begin with human imagination. It responds to the message of Christ. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. Then Paul says, “after that ye believed”. The Greek word pisteuo means to believe, trust, or place confidence in. Biblical faith is more than acknowledging that something is true; it involves trusting in the One revealed through the gospel. And then comes the remarkable statement: “Ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise”.

The seal is therefore connected with God’s saving work in the believer.
God does not merely call us to believe and then leave us without confirmation of our new identity. He gives His Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not simply evidence that we have experienced something emotional. His indwelling presence is God’s gracious gift to those who are in Christ. Romans 8:9 teaches that anyone who belongs to Christ has the Spirit of Christ. This means Christianity is not merely an external religion. Something has happened within. The believer has entered a new relationship with God, and the Holy Spirit now indwells him.

This should change the way we understand ourselves. You are not merely someone who attends church. You are not merely someone who knows Christian doctrines. You are someone who has believed the gospel and has received the Spirit of God. The seal speaks of a relationship that God Himself has established. Therefore, never reduce salvation to a moment you remember in the past. The gospel you believed brought you into a present reality: the Spirit of God dwells in you. And because He dwells in you, your Christian life is now lived in fellowship with Him. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Remember today that the Christian life began with hearing and believing the gospel, but it does not end there. Cultivate conscious fellowship with the Holy Spirit who now dwells in you.

CONFESSION: I have heard the gospel of Christ, I have believed in Him, and I have received the Holy Spirit. I am not spiritually empty or abandoned. The Spirit of God dwells in me, and I walk consciously in fellowship with Him, in Jesus Name.  Amen.
