“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” – Luke 12:32
LIGHT FOR NOW: The Father’s heart is not against His children. He delights in their welfare, growth, and participation in all that He has prepared for them in Christ.
One of the greatest obstacles to experiencing the fullness of God’s love is fear. Fear causes people to withdraw. Fear creates uncertainty. Fear makes believers question the Father’s intentions toward them. This is why Jesus speaks these comforting words: “Fear not, little flock…” Notice the tenderness of His language. He does not say: “Fear not, mighty army”. He says: “Little flock”. This is the language of affection, care, and protection. A flock depends upon its shepherd. Sheep are not known for their strength. They survive because of the care of the shepherd. Likewise, believers are sustained not by their own strength but by the Father’s loving care. Jesus then gives the reason believers should not fear: “For it is your Father’s good pleasure…” What a remarkable statement!
The phrase “good pleasure” speaks of delight, joy, satisfaction, and willing desire. In other words, the Father is not reluctant toward His children. He is not constantly looking for reasons to withhold good from them. His heart is inclined toward blessing. His heart is inclined toward generosity. His heart is inclined toward goodness. Many people unknowingly view God through the lens of earthly experiences. If authority figures were harsh, they assume God is harsh. If love was conditional, they assume God’s love is conditional. If generosity was scarce, they assume God is unwilling. But Jesus reveals the true heart of the Father. The Father delights in doing good to His children.
Notice Jesus does not merely say that God gives. He says it is His good pleasure to give. Giving is not a burden to Him; it is His delight. This reflects the very nature of divine love. Love gives, love blesses, love shares, and love pours itself out. This is why the Father gave His Son. Not reluctantly, but willingly; not under pressure, but out of love. Jesus then says: “…to give you the kingdom”. The kingdom represents everything believers inherit in Christ; forgiveness, righteousness, peace, joy, sonship, fellowship with God, and eternal life. The Father has not called His children into spiritual poverty. He has brought them into spiritual inheritance. This is why Paul says believers are: “Heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ”. Think about that! The believer is not merely a servant in God’s household; he is an heir. An heir receives what belongs to the family. This truth reveals the generosity of the Father’s heart.
Many believers live as though they must constantly persuade God to bless them. Yet, Jesus reveals that blessing flows from the Father’s own desire. This does not mean believers receive everything they desire exactly as they desire it. A loving father gives wisely, not recklessly. Sometimes God’s love says yes. Sometimes His love says wait. Sometimes His love says no. But in every case, His actions flow from perfect wisdom and perfect love. This is why believers can trust Him. A child who knows his father’s heart does not panic when he does not understand every decision. He trusts the father’s wisdom. Likewise, believers must learn to trust the Father’s heart even when His timing differs from their expectations. The Father’s love is not measured merely by what He gives. It is revealed in the fact that He delight in giving what is best. Fear fades where trust in the Father’s heart grows. And the believer who understands this walks through life with confidence, peace, and joyful expectation.
INSTRUCTION: Replace fear with trust today. Whenever anxious thoughts arise, remind yourself that your Father delights in your welfare and is working all things according to His wisdom and love.
CONFESSION/PRAYER: Father, thank You that it is Your good pleasure to bless and care for Your children. Help me to trust Your heart completely and reject every fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. I rest today in Your wisdom, goodness, and love. Amen.
