“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”– Romans 3:19-24
LIGHT FOR NOW: The dark manner of communication and shadows of the law is explained in Christ in simplicity.
The law is a communication of riddles, parables, types, and shadows; it is therefore called mystery. A mystery refers to an open place secret; something well heard and seen, but needs to be explained. What needs to be explained? Ephesians 3:3-6 “How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel”. This is because the understanding is not in the communication itself. The mystery needs revelation to be solved, and this is by the spirit of Christ in the gospel. The mystery is that all men, both Jews and Gentiles, are equally preordained in Christ Jesus to be saved by faith in the gospel.
We are to read to know that reading is important to understanding the mystery. It will mean that the revelation of the mystery is also written. 2 Corinthians 3:12 “Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech”. The dark manner of communication and shadows of the law is explained in Christ in simplicity; this was exactly how Jesus explained the scriptures of the law and prophets to his apostles after he rose from the death; and we will see this in next study. Glory!
