KNOWLEDGE, A NECESSITY (3)

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling; and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.” – Ephesians 1:16:22

LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer’s Christian life and walk will be effective to the degree of the knowledge of Christ that he has.

The will of God for all men is that all men be saved and not just saved, but also come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4 “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth”. In Ephesians 4:11-13, Paul echoes “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ”.

The phrase “that we all come” refers to a conscious effort or an initiative that ought to be taken by an individual. The man born again ought to be zealous about the right kind of knowledge. Paul in Ephesians 3:14-19 says: “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God”. The prayer’s emphasis here was on knowledge. Knowledge can thus not be over-emphasized for the believer. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Be passionate about the right kind of knowledge.

CONFESSION: I am zealous and passionate for the right kind of knowledge, in Jesus name, Amen.

QUOTE: The need for knowledge is the greatest need of the believer after salvation.
