LIVING THE LIFE OF HONOUR AS A BELIEVER (5)

“Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.” – Romans 12:9-13

LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus also taught about honouring earthly parents.

In Matthew 15:4 & 6, Jesus spoke in reference to honouring earthly parents, it reads “For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition”. In chapter 19 and verse 19 of Matthew, this was repeated again, it says “Honour thy father and thy mother: and thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”. Mark and Luke in their synoptic also reference this, they read “Thou knowest the commandment, do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, defraud not, Honour thy father and mother” (Mark 10:19). “Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother”.

In all of these scriptures cited above, Jesus was actually quoting from an Old Testament text, the book of Exodus, “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee”. So the question is what is the focus of Jesus’ explanation in all the above referenced text in the synoptic which was quoted from an Old Testament text? Jesus’ focus in the above cited text was for us to treat our natural parents with respect or regard. So not honouring or treating your natural parent will be a dishonor or will be living in dishonor. We honour our earthly parent; we treat them with respect, we treat them with regard; we don’t live in offence with our earthly/natural parents. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Treat your natural parents with respect and regard.

PRAYER: Thank you father because the culture of honour is my DNA, I manifest honour in my conduct, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: Dishonouring your natural parent in your individual homes will be equivalent to dishonouring God who set them over you in that home.
