“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.” – Ephesians 1:17-19
LIGHT FOR NOW: The authority of the believer is not only good but extremely necessary.
The believer’s authority is found in the resurrection and exaltation of Jesus Christ by God. In Ephesians 1:18 “I ask that the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of your calling, what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints”. Paul prays that the eyes of the understanding of the people of Ephesus be enlightened that is their spirits be opened to the truth. Paul wants the church to come to the knowledge of God and the power that lies therein. The issue of “authority of a believer” has been overlooked by so many Christians and some Christian denomination. A lot of believers don’t even know or they haven’t come to the consciousness that they have authority at all; hence, they are placed at a disadvantaged position where they can easily be oppressed by the kingdom of darkness, anytime, anywhere. A believer will never understand his authority only with his intellect; he must get the spiritual revelation of it and must believe it by faith. Ephesians 2:1 says “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins”. Here, the Holy Spirit speaking through Paul says that we were dead in our transgressions but through his strength, he quickened us. This is the assurance that we have as believers, that we were once dead and lost but Christ found us and even found us worthy to be partakers of his divine calling.
In Ephesians 2:5-6, the passage talks about the conferment of authority on believers. It is visible that the head (Christ) and the Body (the church-believers) were raised together. This tells us that authority was not only given to the head but to the body also because the head and the body are one. When believers come to the knowledge that the authority that belongs to Christ also belongs to us then our lives will be completely changed and revolutionized. A believer’s authority can only be understood and effectively exercise when the believer has an in-depth knowledge of God and his knowledge is only situated within the confines of the rightly divided word of truth. As such, a believer must learn to endure sound doctrine. As a believer you have all it takes to rule, reign and dominate, so surrender yourself to be taught and go walking the surface of the earth like the God that you are. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Sound doctrine is only endured not enjoyed. So, sit and be taught.
CONFESSION: I declare that as a son, I exercise my authority in Christ.
QUOTE: As a believer, All of God is you and all of you is God.
