LIGHTS IN THE DARK WORLD (11)

“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5

LIGHT FOR NOW: You are born of the father of lights in who is no variableness; therefore, you are a child of light.

Having read Isaiah 60:1-5 backwards to Genesis 1:2-3 and forward to John 1:1-5, it’s obvious that salvation in Christ was the intent of the communication here. Hence, light shining out of darkness is salvation. You can better say that light shining out of darkness was figurative of salvation without works. Thus is because man in darkness can do nothing to save himself; none of his works can guarantee salvation since he is already in darkness. Hence, at the point of salvation where a man in that helpless state of darkness believes the gospel, light shines and that is salvation without works. The light shined in darkness and there was a change of status; from darkness to light. Hence, when the light of God shines in a man, he becomes light himself. Jesus who is the light taking up residence in a man makes that man light.

In John chapter 8, Jesus calls himself the light, it reads “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). So the light we have is the light of life. John in chapter 1 called the light the life and vice versa. In John 9:5, Jesus echoes again “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world”. So Jesus being the light of the world is him being the light of men or God’s salvation plan for man. So if Jesus is the light, when he takes residence in a man at salvation, that man becomes light (a change of status; from darkness to light). Hence, James says in James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning”. So, if he calls him “the father of lights”, this tells us that we his children are children of light. Therefore, in this dark world, we are the light. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Be consistent in saying what God says about you.

CONFESSION: I am born of the father of lights; therefore I am a child of light. Light is infused into my very being. I am light in person.

QUOTE: When you received Christ at salvation, there was an infusion of the very nature of God inside you.
