“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5
LIGHT FOR NOW: Many errors in bible interpretation and application be solved and resolved by a systematic reading approach of the bible.
In order to buttress the fact that unbelief to God’s plan of Genesis was the reason for a physical institution of divorce and as a physical demonstration of their hardness of heart towards that spiritual reality, we began observing verse 8 of Matthew 19. Observe the reading again “He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so”. The phrase “because of” was translated from a word that was used 703 times in the New Testament books of the bible; it is the Greek word “pros” which means towards.
The word “hardness” is the word “sklero” in the Greek; it implies unyielding, stubborn, and obstinate. The word “heart” is the word “kardia” in the Greek; it implies the very core of man. Thus, the phrase “hardness of heart” referred to perception. The word “suffered” was translated from a Greek word which implies to allow, to permit and to respond to. The word “you” (“humin” in Greek) supports the fact that Moses gave the law specifically to the Jews. Thus, the statement “hardness of heart” therefore referred to their perception and it was referred to as or explained by the writer of Hebrews as unbelief in the gospel. Hallelujah!
