“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5

LIGHT FOR NOW: In reading, the degree of your observation shows the level of your attention which will determine the degree of your understanding.

In Matthew’s synoptic account, something happened in chapter 19, lets read “The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them male and female, And said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of document, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so” (Matthew 19:3-8).

In Matthew 19 here, they came to Jesus with the book of Deuteronomy; that is, they quoted Deuteronomy, but Jesus in responding to them took them back to Genesis. Now, any book in life, we’ve said you start from the beginning. They quoted Deuteronomy out of context; and Jesus who had systematically read and understood the bible knew that they were being dishonest; how can you start reading a book from Deuteronomy? So, he took them back to the book of the beginning and corrected that dishonest attitude of theirs. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Follow the study more carefully.

PRAYER: I declare that my eyes of understanding are sharpened, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: The quality of attention you pay in reading is the quality of understanding you will get from what you’ve read.
