‘’O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called” 1 Timothy 6:20
LIGHT FOR NOW: The same message that saved you has been committed into your trust.
The word ‘’trust’’ in the scripture above is an interesting Greek word ‘’parakatatheke’’ and it means a deposit, the investment of your personality. As a believer, something has been deposited in you and you have to come to the realization that the deposit is for the ongoing work of Christ. The same message that saved your life has been committed to your trust. Paul knew this and in 1 Timothy 1:11. He affirmed thus, ‘’According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust’’. When a believer understands the importance and necessity of engaging in evangelism, prayer, giving and discipleship, he will be committed and urgent about it. Paul’s consciousness ought to be our consciousness too! He took personal responsibility for the Gospel. Our co-workers, business associates, schoolmates, family members, co-tenants, friends and all those God ever connect us with are all hanging on to the trust committed to us by God. They are your personal responsibility for the Gospel.
We know that the gospel is meeting constant hostility in most places as there are people who are well placed in our society, who do not want the gospel to be preached. They have a way of opposing the gospel because they see it as a threat to their evil lifestyle. Hence, they do everything to stop people around them from embracing it. That was why Apostle Paul appealed to the brethren at Thessalonica to keep praying for him and other ministers of the gospel; he said, ‘’Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course and be glorified, even as it is with you. And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for all men have not faith’’ (2Thessalonicans. 3:1-2). One of our assignments as believers is to pray for Christian ministries, ministers of the gospel in their efforts to reach the unreached with the gospel of Christ. It’s our place to pray for more doors of opportunity to be opened and that the gospel will have free course into the hearts of as many that hear it. This is exactly what Paul was communicating to the young minister, Timothy, in our anchor scripture – the consciousness of what was committed to his trust. Now that you are in God’s Kingdom, the ongoing work of Christ should be your utmost priority. You are a carrier of the seed of the Kingdom of God and the Gospel is your ministry in life.
INSTRUCTION: Never stop praying for preachers of the Gospel of Christ.
Prayer: Father, I pray that the Gospel of Christ have a free course in the hearts of men, in Jesus Name, Amen
QUOTE: The Gospel is your personal responsibility.
