“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust’’
1 Timothy 1:11
LIGHT FOR NOW: The Gospel speaks about his death to his ascension.
Jesus in Luke 19:10 explained His mission on earth when he said, “For the son of man is come to seek and save that which was lost”; and it’s the same mission He gave to the church. The four-fold ministry offices of the apostles, prophets, evangelist and pastor teachers (Ephesians 4:11-12) are therefore for the purpose of perfecting(maturing) the saints and preparing them for this mission as there isn’t any assignment in the kingdom of God that is more important than the great commission – getting men to hear the Gospel so that they can be saved. There are lots of people who are yet to actually hear the Gospel because most preachers don’t really know what the Gospel is, hence they misrepresent it. For example, John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. You should know that the “giving of Jesus” does not refer to his incarnation. God gave Him on the cross and Verses 14 and 15 explains this. “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up”. The “giving” is that the very son of God was left to be killed,in other to satisfy the demands for the justification of mankind. He was laid bare and naked for the purpose of our sins. Furthermore, we see the Apostle Paul explaining the “giving” thus: *“He that spared not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things” (Romans 8:32).
But the story of the full redemption of man doesn’t stop at the cross; Christ must stand in the place of man and meet eternity’s demand; He must suffer for three days and night; He must bear man’s separation for three days; He must go to where sinners go to; He must fully be identified with man in the present and the life after. So the Gospel speaks of His death to His ascension. As a child of God, your life’s mission should be taking the Gospel to your ever-increasing sphere of contacts. God expects that you be fully involved in the propagation of the Gospel. Preaching the gospel is a huge way to show to the world that you are truly a child of the kingdom and we receive heaven’s accolades when we lead sinners to salvation. So don’t you let anyone or anything dampen your passion for souls. You have a responsibility to bring others into the kingdom – it’s your life’s mission.
