“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”
LIGHT FOR NOW: The more of God’s word one appreciates, the more effective he will be in the sharing of his faith.
The amplified version of the above verse of the scripture says, “[And I pray] that the participation in and sharing of your faith may produce and promote full recognition and appreciation and understanding and precise knowledge of every good [thing] that is our sin [our identification with] Christ Jesus [and unto His glory]”. If you observe here, the phrase “sharing of your faith” was used; thus implying that the more of the word of God one appreciates, the more effective he would be in the sharing of his faith. The word, “acknowledge” in our theme text, in the Greek lexicon was translated from the word “epignosis” and it implies precise, accurate and comprehensive knowledge (of Christ). So in sharing one’s faith, precise knowledge of all that the believer is and all that he has in Christ will play a vital role. Hence, Apostle Peter in his epistle said, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15). In context, Peter is saying, “be ready always to give an answer to every man”. So the Bible teacher must be able to present the message of Christ in such a way that questions and doubts are cleared from people’s minds and never to create confusion and contentions. Upon salvation, comes the ministry of reconciliation. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;”( 2 Corinthians 5:17-18). And this entails the spreading of the knowledge of Christ. So once a man is born again, he automatically receives eternal life with a responsibility to preach the gospel of Christ. Every believer and the local assemblies ought to be fully involved in evangelism to get men saved and equipped, as that is the only way we can have more believers involved in the spreading of the gospel. When believers are trained, it will be possible for them to carry out the mandate of the great commission; “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also”(2 Timothy 2:2). So, the place of teaching and equipping the believer cannot be overemphasized. It is in the place of learning that believers are equipped and made disciples in order for them to in turn make disciples for the kingdom of Christ. Where a believer does not present himself to be taught, such a believer cannot be rooted in the word and will therefore be subject to be tossed to and fro by any wind of doctrine. Unfortunately, there’s a common assertion by some people that everybody know Jesus and understand His message, but that is largely untrue. And since we know that a lot of people out there don’t know Jesus-they have not heard the gospel; it is therefore our responsibility to take the message of salvation to them. Apostle Paul said, “So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are in Rome also” (Romans 1:15). The word “preach” was translated from the Greek word “keruso” and it implies to herald or to announce. And in this context, it is to herald the Gospel of the kingdom. Again Paul in writing to the Church at Corinth assured them with these words. “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the saviour of his knowledge by us in every place” (2 Corinthians 2:14). The word “savour” relates with fragrance which speaks of the need to spread it. It is in the spreading (preaching) that the fragrance of the gospel becomes effective –there is power is in the preaching of it.
It is very important that the preacher understands what he has been sent to communicate. The gospel must not be innovated; neither should it be subjected to human opinion. The message is about His death, burial and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Remember, this glorious Gospel which has been committed to our trust is God’s saving power that unveils His righteousness, eternal life, and destiny for all mankind; it’s worth living for, and if need be, dying for. So, refuse to give in or cower under any pressure, adversities or oppositions; keep winning souls.
INSTRUCTION: keep spreading the savour of the glorious gospel of Christ.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your son who reconciled me to you in his sacrifice when I was an enemy. I declare that I am stirred up to reconcile enemies to you by the preaching of the gospel, in Jesus name, Amen!
QUOTE: it is in the spreading (preaching) that the fragrance of the gospel becomes effective.
