“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” Romans 1:16
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is the substance of the Gospel.
All of the revelation of God can be found in the Bible. To know God which equals knowing Jesus is to know the written word. You cannot know God or Christ without knowing the written word. You cannot preach the message of Christ without having a precise and accurate knowledge of the written word. The Bible is Jesus’ book. All the entire contents of the scriptures focus on Christ. Jesus himself testifies of this truth in John 5:39 when he said, ‘’search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me’’. Luke 24:26-27 also buttresses this truth. They read, ’Ought not Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself’’. Jesus is therefore the message of the scriptures. Any message preached without Christ being at the centre of it cannot be the gospel. Jesus is the substance of the scripture.
The word, ‘gospel’ is translated from the Greek word, ‘’evangelion’’ meaning good news or good message. It is important to note that the synoptic gospel only has a humanistic account or an eye witness account of the earthly life of Jesus. To evangelize from the verb, ‘’evangelizo’’ is to announce the good news. This shows that the gospel must be announced. Real blessing is in the preaching or announcing of the Gospel of Christ. Romans chapter 15 verse 29 says, ‘’I am sure that when I come unto you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ’’. When Christ is preached, blessings are released.
INSTRUCTION: Announce the gospel of Christ.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for making me a partaker of the glorious gospel of Christ, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: Any message preached, Christ not being the central figure is not the Gospel but a gossip.
