“Herein is love, not that we love God, but that he loved us, and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the son to be the savior of the world” 1John 4:10, 14

LIGHT FOR NOW: The blood of Jesus is the person of Jesus.

From the analysis of the above text in tandem with 1John 2:1-2 and their contextual investigation, we have come to see clearly that Jesus’ death and sacrifice for is for the world (John 12:46-47; 1John 2:2 are reference texts). That offering and propitiation is, however, effective only for those that believe the gospel of Christ. In Romans 3:25, Paul uses the word “hilasterion”, it reads Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God”. The word propitiation used by Paul here is the word hilasterion in Greek. Jesus’ blood takes away sins. Propitiation also means “in the place of”. This comes in the sense of substitution. The writer of Hebrews also used hilasterion. The text below makes it clearer, it reads, “And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly ”(Hebrews 9:5). The word “mercy seat” here was translated from the Greek word “hilasterion”. Everything that was in the tabernacle was a shadow of the propitiation; the entire context of Hebrews 9 will shed light on this (Hebrews 9:1-14).

The mercy seat is the propitiation. Under the law, blood was shed on the mercy seat. This typified Jesus coming after his resurrection to sit at the right hand of the father in heaven. The blood of Jesus will be his person. He sits at the right hand of the father as our propitiation. He is a king and a priest. The propitiation is in the Holiest of all which is in heaven today. Verse 19 of Hebrews 10 says “Having, therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus”. Verse 23 to 24 of Hebrews 9 has this to say It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Jesus appeared for us. His blood was shed for us. His blood is not liquid, his blood is himself. He is our propitiation. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION:Never interpret what you don’t understand.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your blood, shed for me wherewith I am saved and saved to the uttermost, in Jesus Name. Amen!!

QUOTE: Interpretation of what is not understood equals misinterpretation.
