“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” – Genesis 1:26-28.
LIGHT FOR NOW:You operate a sphere of authority that transcends the earth.
In unbundling Genesis 1:26b and 28b, we have seen from few corroborative analyses that animals were used to describe humans’ actions. In Psalm 42:1, David says “As the deer panteth after the water…” So you have animals used to describe human actions, desires and conducts. In verse 6 of Isaiah 30 you have “The burden of the beasts of the south…”; the beast of the south here describes people’s actions. In verse 11 of Daniel 7 you have “…I beheld even till the beast was slain” and this was describing kingdoms (kingdoms of men). So, animals in the Old Testament were used to describe kingdoms, people, actions and desires. In Daniel 7, you will see the use of mighty sea creatures and this was used to describe people and the New Testament (the book of Revelation) retains it. Therefore, the beast of Genesis (“…the fish of the sea, fowl of the air, cattle, creeping thing…”) are not literal. The beast (animals) of Genesis 1:26b and 28b refers to kingdoms, people (different kingdoms and people).
Therefore, in the new creation, God gives us dominion over beast; every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, fowl of the air… That is, dominion over actions, desires and conducts. The question is, how is this dominion given? The answer is by his spirit; “the spirit of God is the one hovering over the face of waters (man)” which is to birth and man in verse 26-28 of that work is made in the image of God which is by his spirit. Little wonder Moses said, when you build the temple/tabernacle, don’t put any image there (not of male nor of female or wing creatures), why? This is because the image is the spirit. So, in the new creation of God (male and female), we have dominion over everything that creeps on the earth whether they move or they fly; and that moving or flying in Genesis 1:26b and 28b describes different kingdoms. So the new creature that is found in Christ subdues all of them. So Genesis 1:26b and 28b was not literal but figurative of actions, desires, activities, conducts, kingdoms and dominions. The new creation has authority and dominion over all. Look at this:
- In the air, we have dominion
- In the water, we have dominion
- On the land, we have dominion
In other words, we operate a sphere of dominion that surpasses the earth. Nothing that flies by night can hurt you; no devices and strategies of men in the earth (air, land or water) influenced by Satan can hurt you. You are in authority; the sphere of your authority transcends the earth. All things are under your feet because you are in Christ. Glory!!!
