“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten so, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world: but that through him the world might be saved” John 3:16-17.
LIGHT FOR NOW: Eternal life is available for all but eternal life is not automatic upon all.
In the incarnation, the seed of the woman in the prophecy of Genesis 3:15 showed up. That is, God took on flesh to save the fallen man. Remember, the coming of Jesus in the flesh is to establish the legality of redemption. Legality demanded that if man sinned then man must redeem man. However, man cannot redeem himself because man is already a captive; man is already in sin. It will take the death of a sinless man (who however will become substitute for sinful man) to redeem man from sin. Therefore, God in His love/goodness for humanity having drawn the plan of salvation in Genesis 1 manifested or became a man to execute His blueprint of redemption. Paul in his words “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Remember, we have said in our studies that God’s involvement in sin and its predicament (death) is the solution to it. Meaning His involvement in sin is not the sin, but the solution to it. In similar fashion, Paul in Romans 6:23 is saying that God’s involvement in sin and its wages (death) is the offer of His gift of eternal life which is in Christ Jesus. Therefore, the involvement of God in man’s problem is actually the solution to man’s problem.
Notice, Paul calls eternal life a gift here in Romans 6:23. For eternal life to be a gift, it means it is not earned, it is undeserved, unmerited. Eternal life is God’s gift for humanity in Christ. Eternal life is God’s gift of grace; meaning nobody deserved it, nobody worked for it. The death of Jesus on the cross was not an answer to man’s cry for help; the death of Jesus or the price Jesus paid was love motivated. Hence, why eternal life is a gift, and if it is a gift, it means eternal life is for all humanity even though it is not automatic upon all. Eternal life is available for all but it is not automatic upon all because all have not yet believed the gospel, not all have received Jesus, and not all are in Christ. Eternal life is a gift for all but received by faith in Christ. This is why we have the ministry of reconciliation, to get men to this reality of God’s plan in their life. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION:Reconcile men to God.
PRAYER: I declare my effectiveness in the ministry of reconciliation, in Jesus Name. Amen!
QUOTE: By the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, all are fit to be saved but outside faith in Christ a man cannot be saved.
