THE GOODNESS OF GOD REVEALED IN SALVATION (26)

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light” Genesis 1:1-3.

LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is the answer to man in darkness.

We have seen that man (Adam) rejected God’s offer of the tree of life (Christ) and thus faced an outcome of his choice which is man-made. This outcome is sin in which death is found. Notice, God did not plan for man to sin, but in the plan of God, He accommodated the sin of man, why? So that salvation will not be a reaction but a pro-action. Remember, God is not involved in sin (He is not responsible for it) but God is involved in sin; God’s involvement in sin is not the sin itself but the solution to the sin which is salvation. Recall, as we started this study we said that you cannot talk about salvation without talking about sin because fundamentally, salvation deals with sin. So, we see the goodness of God in His plan or promise of salvation in Genesis 1:1-3 which was in place before man’s choice in Genesis 3. This shows that God does not react, God only pro-acts. For God to react means He was taken by surprise and thus He is no more omniscience.

God is omniscience (He knows all) but even though He knows all, He is not responsible for all that happens on the earth. That is why the will of man is powerful. A man’s choice can get him what he wants and a man’s choice can get him outcomes that is beyond his control. This is the case of Adam, He made a choice to reject God’s offer of love to him (eternal life) and He (Adam) faced an outcome that was beyond his control. God offered man (Adam) eternal life in Genesis but he rejected it so Adam never had the life of God. The life of God will be a function of faith in Christ; hence, in the Eden scenario Adam was to eat of (that is belief) of the tree of life (Christ), and thus since he rejected that offer, sin entered into the world and death by sin. So sin and death is man-made, not God. Remember, “…by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin…” (Romans 5:12). So, man’s choice brought sin; man’s choice brought death. Sin is man’s creation and by responsibility death which is an aftermath of sin is man’s creation. Man cannot live without Jesus; man’s state without Christ is terrible; he is empty and nothing. Jesus is the answer to man in darkness. Hallelujah!
