“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light” Genesis 1:1-3.
LIGHT FOR NOW: God is not involved in sin even though God has an involvement in sin.
We have seen that the light of Genesis 1:3 is the tree of life of Genesis 2:16-17. The darkness of Genesis 1:2a is the tree of knowledge of good and evil of Genesis 2:16-17. Man’s choice of unbelief in Genesis 3:6 is what Paul explains as sin in Romans 5:12 which also unbundles the tree of knowledge of good and evil of Genesis 2:16-17 and the darkness of Genesis 1:2a. So the origin of sin has been tracked; man’s choice of unbelief to God’s word. Sin and death is thus, man-made. But do we have God’s involvement in sin and death? The answer is yes, but the question is, what is this involvement of God in sin and death which is the predicament of man’s choice? The involvement of God in sin and death of the predicament of man’s choice is God’s solution to that predicament. That is what we have been reading so far in the above Genesis 1:1-3. Genesis 1:2a is the outcome of man’s choice of unbelief to God’s word. But Genesis 1:2b into 3 is God’s solution to man’s predicament in Genesis 1:2a which is God’s involvement in sin and death.
Notice, man did not make this choice in Genesis 1:2a, man made this choice in Genesis 3. In other words, the reason for Genesis 1:2a is to solve the problem of Genesis 3 in Genesis 1:2b into verse 3. The solution to Genesis 3 is Genesis 1. So the solution to man’s predicament in Genesis 3 is in Genesis 1. So Genesis 1 solves the Genesis 3 problem. Already, this shows you that salvation is not a reaction but a pro-action. So the bible opens up with the solution to man’s problem before man’s problem. That solution of God to man’s problem is God’s involvement in man’s problem. So God’s involvement in sin and death is “the spirit of God hovering over the face of the waters… God’s utterance of light”. Therefore, the sin of man did not take God by surprise. The fall of man did not get God unawares. God knew that man will fall, God was involved in that fall but the involvement of God in that fall is not the fall but the solution to the fall. God knew that man will sin, God was involved in that sin but the involvement of God in that sin is not the sin but the solution to the sin. Simply, the involvement of God in sin is salvation even though God is not involved in sin.
INSTRUCTION: Give an undivided attention to the study.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the revelation of your love in the person of Jesus, Amen.
QUOTE: God’s love for man is not reactionary but pro-actionary.
