“I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:4-6
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is the word in the bible.
We’ve said that the testimony of the scriptures is a person. In John 5:39-40, Jesus has this to say “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life”. So the bible on its own is not the word of God; the bible is only the word of God because it testifies of the person “Jesus Christ”. The bible is a Christ centered material. Jesus in Luke 24:25-27 echoes same fact, it reads “Then he said unto them, O fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”. So, Jesus began at Moses and all the prophets, and what he explained in all the scriptures was what? It was things concerning himself. More so, in verse 44 of Luke 24, he says “And he said unto them, these are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the laws of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms concerning me”. So, the things that were to be fulfilled were concerning him. So the bible is a Christ centered material. This is why Apostle John calls Jesus the word in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God”. So, in the bible, the word is a person. Jesus is the word in the bible; Jesus is the explanation of all things. The writer of Hebrews has this to say “God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the world; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:1-3). So, the explanation of all things is a person. The scriptures will find their explanation in Christ.
INSTRUCTION: Go after the word.
PRAYER: I grow in the understanding your word, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: The bible in our hands is Jesus’ book and thus, must be read in the light of Christ.
