“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” – Isaiah 53:3-7
LIGHT FOR NOW: Before man ever thought of loving God, God had already loved man with an everlasting love.
We saw in our last study that what man calls love is not what deity defines love to be. In the context and conduit of deity’s definition of love, love is the domain of sacrifice. Love is not seen in what is said, but in what is done. So in God’s view, love is sacrifice; that is, God loves man and in loving man, He died man’s death and then gave man His life. So, it is not “if you love the Lord, jump up, sit down or clap your hands…” Jesus did not clap His hands to save humanity, Jesus died man’s death. So, don’t say clapping my hands shows that I love God or my shouting of hallelujah proves my love for God. You are actually clapping to maintain or (in accordance) to the tempo of the music going on, and also your shouting of hallelujah is your involvement in the service. More so, some folks can be caught up thinking that when we talk about loving God, we are talking about sleeping in the church day and night praying for your problems; that is not loving God. Some folks think because they pray during tarry nights, this shows they love God; meanwhile, all the tarry night prayers were for themselves. When your service to God is quantified, it is nothing in the face of God’s quality of love. When a man brags about how he loves God, it is because he has not understood the context and confines in which deity defines love. The scope of man’s love is so limited; it cannot score points with God. That is why God did not wait for you to love Him before He started loving you. Hence, Paul’s words in Romans 5:8 which reads “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.
In Romans 8:35, Paul did not say “Who shall separate us from our love for Christ”, rather he said “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ”. So, it is not our love for Christ, it is His love for us. So, when we could not love Him, He loved us and that is why our love today is an offspring of His love for us. Our love for others follows the example of His love for us; He is our prototype, He is our archytype. That said, as we delve into this study in subsequent days, clarity is coming to the fore even as the investigation will get deeper and understanding will be chronologically coming clearer. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: Stay secured in his love for you.
