“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said let there be light and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light day and the darkness he called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day” Genesis 1:1-5
LIGHT FOR THE NOW: When the bible is wrongly interpreted, a vital truth (communicated by the author in such a text of the scripture) is lost.
A vital truth to be taken into consideration where bible interpretation is concerned is that the bible in our hands is God’s thoughts communicated in human words. The bible is not God’s thoughts communicated in heavenly language (tongues), it is God’s word communicated in human language.
In other words, what is actually called Bible language is human language (and not heavenly language). Let’s observe this explanation for further clarity:
• The Old Testament books of the bible (Genesis to Malachi) were originally written in Hebrew. Now , is Hebrew a heavenly language (tongues) or human language?
• Furthermore, the New Testament books of the bible (Matthew to Revelation) were originally written in Greek. Now, is Greek a heavenly language (tongues) or human language? It is human language obviously.
• And finally the translation of the Old Testament (the Hebrew text of the books of the bible) and the New Testament (the Greek text of the books of the bible) into English Language is still a function of human language, because English Language is human language.
In other words, what we actually call God’s word (the bible) is actually God’s words communicated in human’s words. Meaning, an understanding of human’s words; that is, human language is very vital if God’s word must be rightly divided. That means rightly dividing the scriptures goes beyond saying, “I feel this is what the Holy Ghost is saying in this text”; it goes beyond that, it goes into an understanding of human language. So, why all these details? This is because men who wrote the scriptures wrote it using man’s language, and if it was written in human language, then an understanding of grammar, tenses (past tense, present tense, future tense), figures of speech (like imagery, metaphors, simile, etc.), idioms, fictions, etc. is critical and vital in bible interpretation because a careful study of scriptures (even as we will see in this studies we are on) will let you see that men who wrote the scriptures observed this literary rules in their documentation. Therefore, bible language is human language or the bible is God’s thoughts communicated in man’s word. In subsequent days, the subject of study will open up. Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: If the bible is God’s thoughts communicated in human words, then you need to have a sound understanding of human language.
PRAYER: The eyes of my understanding are enlightened in Jesus Name. Amen!!
QUOTE: The Bible is God’s word documented by men using men’s words.
