“I and my Father we are one” – John 10:30
LIGHT FOR NOW: The fatherhood of God is found in Christ.
One of the greatest understanding required of the believer to have is the understanding of whom the believer belongs to and where the believer belongs. The understanding of this fact is very critical as far as the Father and son relationship is concerned, and a good comprehension of this fact will affect the believer’s walk with God; how he views God and how he relates with God. In fact, a lack of the understanding of the Father and son relationship (the relationship we have in Christ; the fatherhood of God in Christ) will be the reason for a stunted or diseased relationship with God. Hence, in this study today and subsequent days, we will go through a lot of scriptures to establish the fact of the Father and son relationship which is the relationship we have with God in Christ which will definitely put us in the right perspective of how we view God. That said, in our opening text, Jesus revealed God as father!
And consistently in the synoptic gospels, Jesus severally and regularly referred to God as His Father. Let’s see a few instances of this in the four gospels: “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21). “All things are delivered unto me of my father! And no man knoweth the son, but the father, no man knoweth the father, save the son, and (he) to whomsoever the son will reveal him” (Matthew 11:27). “And he said unto them, how is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that i must be about my father’s business?” (Luke 2:49)
“But Jesus answered them, my father worketh hitherto, and I work. I am come in my father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name ye will receive” (John 5:17). All the above instances of the scriptures is to buttress the fact that Jesus severally referred to God as father. However, upon His resurrection from the dead, He referred to God as my father….and your father. “Jesus answered and said unto her, touch me not! For I am not yet ascended to my father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my father, and your father; and to my God and your God” (John 20:17).
What reality was Jesus communicating here? He was communicating the reality of the fatherhood of God found in Him in His resurrection. Hence, we have come to see and understand God as our father in Christ. Where the new creation is concerned, God is His Father. Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: God is your Father; acknowledge this reality.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the reality of your resurrection which made me a part of your family in Christ. You are my source and everything. Amen
QUOTE: The new creation in Christ is in the family of God in Christ.
