“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” – Romans 8:29
LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer is in Christ and modelled after Christ.
From our previous study, it could be deduced that believers who still cry out to God in their words and songs to be like Elijah or who still think that any of the Old Testament prophets is their model have not come to the understanding of the fact that Jesus is the model of the believer and not any Old Testament prophet. This does not in any way imply that one should not read the Old Testament books of the Bible nor should one belittle/reduce them, neither does it mean that one shouldn’t learn from their stories, but however none of them (the Old Testament prophets) is fit or perfect enough to be the believer’s model; none of their stories have the capacity to save a man. Jesus is the perfect and only model of the born again man. In fact, to make it clearer, it is important to note that the Old Testament prophets spoke in promissory note about what God will do in Christ; that is, God’s plan of life in Christ; the new creation/ the born again man in Christ; the indwelling of the Spirit… and they (the Old Testament prophets) all died without this plan being fulfilled by Christ in them. That is, they died without being indwelt by God’s spirit. They were not born again as they died without being raised from spiritual death to spiritual life. Therefore, they cannot be the believer’s model; the model of the born again man; the new creation; the man who is indwelt by God’s Spirit.
Only Jesus is the perfect and only model of the born again man. He is the prototype of the new creation. This is because he is the first born. That is, He is the first to be raised from spiritual death into spiritual life and it was upon this resurrection that the Old Testament prophets were also raised in like manner as Jesus. Jesus was the first and they followed after that pattern. In other words, even the model of the Old Testament prophets was Jesus. How then should the believer who what the prophets spoke in promissory note got fulfilled in by Jesus begin to see the Old Testament prophet as his model. It will be out of place for the born again man who is God’s promise in Christ communicated in the utterances of the prophets and fulfilled in Christ to look at the Old Testament prophets as his model. Jesus is the first to be raised from the dead and that qualifies him to be our model; our first-born and thus all the prophets are disqualified from being the model of the believer because none of them was the first to be raised from spiritual death to spiritual life. The perfect sample of the believer is Jesus. Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: You are created after the likeness of Christ; think Christ, talk Christ; act Christ.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord for living in me and conforming me into the image of your Son. I declare that I am Christ focused and conscious till nothing else matters, in Jesus name. Amen
