THE BELIEVER AND SIN (6)

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God” – Romans 12:1-2

LIGHT FOR NOW: A transformation in your thoughts brings a transformation in your life.

God’s word is God’s corrective tool to the believer. When a believer allows God’s correction from his word by his spirit (or in his spirit) to take effect, that can be termed repentance. Repentance for the believer is the believer aligning his thoughts, words and actions with his realities in the written word. It is a change of thought. How does repentance take place?

Let’s observe Paul’s word in verse 1 of our opening text in order to ascertain clarity on what he was saying. Paul was not saying ‘make your body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God’. No! An understanding of the term ‘that ye present’ will clear this. ‘That ye present’ was translated from the Greek word ‘paristemi’ which implies to exhibit; to bring before; to display? Paul was saying: display your bodies a living sacrifice, exhibit who you are.

The body of the believer is already a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. Your exhibition of it is not what makes it holy and acceptable; rather, you are exhibiting it or displaying it and because it has been made holy and acceptable unto God and already a living sacrifice. The quality is already present; it is not the displaying that brings the quality, it is the quality inherently present already that prompts the display.

The believer by nature is a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, hence he sees himself as a living sacrifice. Paul was not saying make your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God; rather he was saying account, confess or see your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God because that is who you are. When an understanding of who you are dawns on you, there will be a shift or change in your thought realm and when there is a change in your thought realm, there will definitely be a change in what you do. Hallelujah!!

INSTRUCTION: Constantly meditate on God’s word for it is crucial to the effectiveness of your Christian life.

PRAYER: Thank you Father for making me a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto you. I declare that these realities become my thought as I give expression to them in my walk as a believer, in Jesus name, Amen.

QUOTE: The degree to which you know yourself will be dependent on the degree to which you know the word.
