“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins” – Colossians 1:14

LIGHT FOR NOW: The death and resurrection of Jesus made forgiveness of sins available.

Redemption, which is the forgiveness of sins, is in the blood of Jesus. This means that the forgiveness of sins was not obtained freely, but was made available to everyone freely. It took the death of Christ to make forgiveness of sins available to all who freely believe.

Therefore, the price for the forgiveness of sins is the blood of Christ. If forgiveness of sins is an answer to a prayer or a response to an apology, then Jesus shouldn’t have died. He would have just prayed to God to forgive all our sins or apologized on our behalf and all sins would have been forgiven and the apology accepted without him needing to die. But Jesus did not pray; He died.

This tells us that where legality is concerned, the payment for sin is not an apology, confession of sins, tears nor prayers. No! The payment for sin is death. Paul made this clear in Romans 6:23. It reads, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. The word, ‘wages’ from its original translation implies payment, retribution. Where justice is concerned, the penalty of sin is death, not an apology, not prayers, not confession.

You are not to apologize or confess your sins after you sin. Justice demands that you pay for it. And the payment for sin is death. That is justice. But the good news is that, Jesus took your (our) place. He became our substitute for sin and died our death and upon his resurrection, he gave us his life.

Jesus died the death he did not deserve and he gave us the life we did not deserve. Jesus faced justice on our behalf; He took our place Hallelujah!!

INSTRUCTION: Fix your gaze on what Christ did.

PRAYER: Father, thank you for your gift of eternal life in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: Christ is the good news.
