“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” – Ephesians 1:7
LIGHT FOR NOW: Forgiveness is your possession in Christ.
In our opening text, Apostle Paul’s letter was to the church at Ephesus. In this letter, he affirms the fact that redemption and forgiveness of sins is in Christ. Notice, the term ‘in whom’ is in reference to Christ Jesus because redemption is through Christ. The context of his discussion elucidates this fact: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).
We can deduce that redemption, even the forgiveness of sins is part of the blessing (spiritual blessing) we have in Christ. Paul is saying that redemption and the forgiveness of sins is our possession in Christ. “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”. The believer in Christ has the forgiveness of sins as his right in Christ. You did not obtain it, Jesus obtained it for you.
Faith in Christ channels the forgiveness of sins to your account. It is what you have in Christ and not what you earned as a response for a continual prayer of forgiveness for wrongdoing. Forgiveness of sins is your inheritance in Christ. God does not keep a record of your sins.
Hebrews chapter 10:17 reads, “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more”. This is the good news. God remembers your sins and iniquities no more. Hebrews chapter 8:22 reads, “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more”. When God says he will not remember your sins and iniquities no more, he is not implying a memory loss.
The word, ‘remember’ means that he will not reckon or charge it to your account. This is because Jesus bore our sins in his substitutionary sacrifice and upon his resurrection; he made forgiveness of sins not just available but our possession in Christ. Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: Focus your eyes on the finished work of Christ and nothing more.
PRAYER: Father, I am forever secured and forgiven in your love. Amen.
QUOTE: Forgiveness is not an answer to a prayer, forgiveness is faith in the message.
