“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy Scriptures) concerning his son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh” – Romans 1:1-3
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is the focus of the gospel.
The word, ‘separated’ as found in our text for today is from the Greek word, ‘horizo’ which means to mark boundaries or to make distinction. The gospel of God is concerning the Son of God, Jesus Christ. The word, ‘concerning’ is from the Greek word, ‘peri’ and it is used for a particular or specific subject. The promise of God to man was Christ. All the old testament saints were recognized by their faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 11:1-14). Jesus is the voice of God to us. Hebrews chapter 1 verse 1 and 2 says, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds”. God will never speak to us outside the scriptures. Jesus is the thread that runs through the entire scriptures. Luke chapter 24 from verse 25 – 27 attests to this. They read, “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”.
After His resurrection from the dead, Jesus had to spend forty days on earth just to teach his disciples. This was because there are more mysteries in His resurrection than in His incarnation. All the glory the prophets prophesied about is in His resurrection from the dead. Jesus is marked out in the scriptures by His life and not by His death. This is because the gospel is not in His death but in His resurrection. Hallelujah!!
INSTRUCTION: Believe the Gospel of Christ.
PRAYER: Lord, we thank you that, You had, from the beginning, chosen us to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth for we have been called to the gospel and have obtained the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: Jesus is the thread that runs through the entire scriptures.
