THE REALITY OF THE NEW TESTAMENT – (PART THREE)

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect – Hebrews 10:1

LIGHT FOR NOW:  The Old Testament is Jesus concealed.

The Old Testament is the practice or ceremonial laws which were types or shadows pointing to Jesus. The Old Testament is Jesus concealed. The practices of the Old Testament represented what Jesus has fulfilled in the New Testament. The Old Testament could not bring a permanent solution to the problem of sin. It rather brought about a sin consciousness to the people. This can be found in Hebrews chapter 10 verse 3. It reads, “But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year”. The Old Testament could not justify any man. No man is free by the deeds of the Law.  Romans chapter 3 verse 20 says, “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for the law is the knowledge of sin”. Justification is only in the New Testament. It is only the finished work of Christ that justifies a man. Romans chapter 5 verse 1 reads, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. The Old Testament was for a particular set of people – the Jews but the New Testament is for everybody including the Jews.

By appraising and acknowledging the reality of the New Testament, our redemption in Christ begins to have a meaning. The Old Testament was about sin and death. The New Testament is about righteousness and life. Romans chapter 8 verse 2 says, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death”. Also, 2 Corinthians chapter 3 verse 6 confirms this truth. It reads, “Who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life” the New Testament brings life- even eternal life. The reality of the New Testament is life all the way. The Old Testament is the ministration of death. It was a ministration of condemnation but the New Testament is a ministration of righteousness.

INSTRUCTION: Stay in the New Testament.

PRAYER: I am a product of the New Testament in the blood of Christ. I am in the reality of the person of Jesus, in Jesus Name.  Amen.
