“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” –Romans 6:23-
LIGHT FOR NOW: When you receive Christ, you receive eternal life.
Jesus Christ came to give eternal life or salvation freely to all men, devoid of works. We did not contribute anything to what Christ did. “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). So, salvation is not of works. This is why Apostle Paul says in Ephesians chapter 2 verses 8 and 9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast”. He also said in Romans chapter 3 verses 27 and 28; “Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law?Of works?Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law”. But even as salvation is a free gift, not all men have received the gift of salvation. If something is given to you and you do not accept it, it is of no benefit to you. Salvation is only given in Christ. There is no life outside of Christ, who is the Son of God, the eternal life Himself. When you reject Christ, you reject eternal life. When you receive Christ, you receive eternal life.
1 John chapter 5 verses 11-13 says, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life”. Also, John chapter 3 verse 16 reads, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Other scriptures confirm this truth. John chapter 3 verse 36 says, “he that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him”. Also, John chapter 5 verse 24 says, “verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”
