‘Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ’ – Ephesians 5:20.
LIGHT FOR NOW: God takes residence in the hearts of believers.
It is important to have Christ dwell in our hearts constantly. Hebrews 13:15 says ‘By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.’ This shows that our songs and worship must be through Jesus Christ. Today’s reference text tells us that our thanksgiving cannot go to God outside Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ should be the cardinal figure of our worship, praise and message. Lot of so-called Christian songs are completely devoid of Jesus Christ. It is high time believers review what they offer as songs. Many some do not praise Jesus Christ, but are expressions extolling the devil. Some reveal their quest for miracles. Any song that does point to Christ as the Lord, is a mere noise generated by clashing cymbals! If your song does not glorify the Son, then it is a noise!
Christ must be seen in all aspects of your life. Everything you do should revolve around Christ. Your attitude in the family is a display of your relationship with Christ. For instance, submission functions in being born-again. Brother Paul spoke to the believers in Ephesus: ‘Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it’ (Ephesians 5:22-25). You cannot submit to your husband until God stays in your heart. This is the Holy of Holies of each believer – the heart. God lives in your heart. If anything corrupts your heart, you are doomed! This is because God takes residence in the hearts of believers.
Let Christ be the central figure of influence in your life. You should guard your heart.
