CHRIST, YOUR SAFETY ZONE (4)

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shall thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation.” – Psalm 91:1-9

LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer treads upon serpents and scorpions and over all the powers of the enemies.

It is already established studying through this subject that Psalm 91 relates to Christ and us in him. It is important to note that Psalm 91 is a very important Psalm because even Jesus referenced it in his teachings in the four gospels, and we will see the epistles making reference to this psalm equally as we study through. Interestingly, the first person to reference Psalm 91 is the devil. We are not saying that the devil spoke concerning Christ, but that he is the first person to reference it. Many people result to saying that the devil misquoted it. If the devil misquoted it and Jesus was being tempted, that means it was a film or a movie. It means Satan and Jesus was acting out a script. But we all know that it wasn’t a movie, and then Matthew 4 where Satan referenced Psalm 91 wasn’t a misquotation. The devil did not misquote it; he only quoted out of context, which is different from misquoting. Misquoting means you added something or you took away from it.

Matthew 4:6 where we have the first reference of Psalm 91 reads “And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone”. Here, Satan is referencing Psalm 91:11 which read “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways”. Another important and very direct reference of Psalm 91 is in Luke 10:19 where Jesus says “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. This reference Psalm 91:13 and thus, shows us that we are situated or seated in the sphere of authority and power where demons and devils are subject to us. Yes! We render Satan’s power redundant. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Stay with the word, and speak the word.

CONFESSION: I declare that I am in the sphere of authority and power where demons and devils are subject to me, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: The believer is in the sphere of authority and power above all other authority and powers.

CHRIST, YOUR SAFETY ZONE (3)

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee sfrom the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

LIGHT FOR NOW: The Saviour who saves the saved saves the saved unto himself and not away from himself.

Psalm 91 is a psalm concerning Jesus and it relates to us (believers) in him by virtue of identification at new birth. David’s words were prophetic utterances concerning God’s plan in Christ where the believer in him is found. In other words, it is in God’s plan we find the believer. This plan is the plan of salvation that’s why his plan of salvation is for man, that is, to save men. Being in the plan of God starts at salvation. A man that is not saved is not in the plan of God. Paul in 1Timothy 2:4 says, “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth”. God’s plan of salvation is for all men; his will is the salvation for all men, but not all men are saved because all men have not believed. Thus, being in the plan of God begins at salvation.

Salvation, which is “Soteria” in the Greek doesn’t only mean rescue from sin and sins’ punishment/consequences. “Soteria” also implies safety. The person responsible or the person that keeps us saved in salvation is the Saviour who saves us. In other words, the Saviour which is “Soter” in Greek is the one who keeps us save in Soteria (salvation). Thus, in salvation, our Saviour did not just save us and leave us to ourselves to regulate our daily lives on our own. He didn’t just save us and abandon us, no! He saved us unto himself; he saved us and keeps us saved. Our safety, preservation and protection are sure, because we are not the one holding him, he is the one holding us. We are in him, so we are in a safety zone. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Your understanding of salvation is crucial.

CONFESSION: I declare this reality in me; I am preserved and kept saved from all forms of harm, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: Jesus doesn’t save and leave you; he saves the saved unto himself.

CHRIST, YOUR SAFETY ZONE (2)

LIGHT FOR NOW: Your arrival in Jesus at the point of salvation equals your arrival in safety.

There is need for a believer to appreciate, that is, acknowledge and come to a place of comprehension that once he arrives in Christ at salvation, he arrSives a place or zone of safety. That is why the word “salvation” which was translated from the Greek word “soteria” also carries a shade of the word “safety” in its meaning. So, in “soteria” (salvation), there is safety. That is, safety, security, and protection are in salvation. In essence, you are not just saved in Christ from sin and its consequences; you are also saved, preserved, secured, and protected in Christ from any form of harm. This is what we aim to make clear as we observe Psalm 91.

The psalm of David majorly was about Jesus. And since they were majorly about Jesus, in essence, it implies that they were about us by virtue of identification. Jesus in Luke 24:27 affirms that the scriptures (which includes the Psalm of David) was concerning him, it reads “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”. In verse 44 of Luke 24, Jesus gives more details and says “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me”.

Jesus here confirms and affirms that the words of David in the Psalms were concerning him. And if it was concerning him, then it relates to us (believers) in him. Psalm 91, therefore, will be concerning Jesus and relating to us in Jesus. This psalm is a psalm that points out Jesus to us as our place of safety. This means arrival in Jesus equals arrival in safety and preservation. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: You are safe in Christ; acknowledge this.

CONFESSION: I declare over my life that I live in complete and absolute victory in Christ,s in Jesus Name. Amen.

QUOTE: Your arrival in Christ equals arrival in safety.

CHRIST, YOUR SAFETY ZONE (1)

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence.

LIGHT FOR NOW: Being in Christ is being in a zone of safety; safety from whatsoever harm.

At new birth or salvation, the person of Christ who is our saviour became our place, location, and zone. That’s why Paul will say “Therefore if any man be IN CHRIST, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2Corinthians 5:17). Notice that phrase “in Christ”, that phrase is Apostle Paul’s signature. In fact, that phrase “in Christ” is the greatest thing in the epistle; it carries within it the fact of our identification with Christ and the import of what that identification has made out of us. That phrase “In Christ” comes with other associate phrases like:
• In him,
• In whom,
• Through him, etc.

It is within this signature of “in Christ” that unveils the following:
• Who we are in Christ.
• What we have in Christ.
• What Christ can do through you.

It is vital to note that it is in the revelation of who we are in Christ that brings us to a place of knowing what we have in Christ, and in knowing what you have in Christ there is an unveiling of what you can do in Christ or better still, what Christ can do through you. Notice, “in Christ” is the emphasis. And the believer at new birth is in Christ. It thus implies that outside Christ, the believer can not know himself. Christ revealed will equal the believer unveiled. The revelation of Christ will be the unveiling of the believer.

Therefore, if Christ is veiled from the believer, then what avails to the believer by virtue of identification with Christ is veiled from the believer. Also, words spoken concerning Christ in scripture will equally relate to the believer in him by virtue of identification. An example of such words spoken concerning Christ that relates to us in Psalm 91, which we reveal Christ as our safety zone. There is safety in Christ; there is preservation in Christ; there is protection in Christ. Glory!!!

INSTRUCTION: Know who you are in Christ.

CONFESSION: I confess confidently that I am in Christ, which means I am in safety; I am secured, preserved, and protected from all forms of harm, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

QUOTE: You are effective as a believer to the degree to which you understand your realities.

RIGHTEOUSNESS, NOT A MEDAL

“For by grace you have been saved through Faith; and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9

LIGHT FOR NOW: Righteousness is not a reward given to believers for their good deeds.

The Bible being a book of evidence has proven that there is no righteousness for a believer by keeping the law. No man can be made righteous by obeying the Ten Commandments of Moses. For further clarification, let’s consider the meaning of righteousness. The word righteousness spelt in Greek “dikaiosune” means equity or justification. This has to do with the trait or quality of being just or right. Galatians 2:21 says “If righteousness comes by law, Christ died in vain”. Also, Galatians 3:21(ESV) says “Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law”. On the cross, the sinless Christ, who knew no sin, was made sin for us; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him (2Corinthians 5:21). From the passages above, it is visible that righteousness is not a human attainment or reward for right doing. This means that, no man can earn it, purchase it or merit it by good religious behaviour. Righteousness is God’s free, unreserved gift to a believer and the only place a believer can find righteousness is in Jesus Christ. Of great importance is the truth that righteousness is available for any sinner who will by faith receive the grace of God and His son Jesus. Justification by faith is to him that worketh not. In Ephesians 2:10, Paul shows the place for good works, following salvation without works.

Note the plain statements in Romans 3:28 and Romans 3:24, that because of the perfect redemptive work of the perfect Christ, the believing sinner is justified without the deeds of the law, without a cause, “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith in Jesus Christ” (Galatians 2:16). In the Old Testament, the people had to perform perfectly to be righteous before God. The harder they tried to do right according to the Law of Moses, the more they sinned and felt guilty and condemned about it. When Jesus came, He freed us from this requirement, Glory! Having faith in what He did through His death and resurrection, instead of what we do, replaces guilt with peace and joy. “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). The realization that we’re made righteous by what Jesus did, not by what we do, frees us from the requirements of constantly laboring to be found acceptable. It is not by how well your skirt sweeps the floor, neither does it have anything to do with how well your head-tie covers your ears; rather it has everything to do with Christ’s one-time sacrifice on the cross and our believe through faith in him. The concept of receiving salvation by faith is something with which the world and many Christians struggle, but a sign of spiritual maturity is a greater understanding of this. “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe” (Hebrews 5:12, 13, NKJV). Any Christian or believer who still struggles with believing that righteousness is God’s free gift to us is still a babe and must present himself to be taught. Accepting God’s free gift liberates us from the bondage that the rest of the world is struggling with. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Don’t struggle with your nature of righteousness.

CONFESSION: Lord, I thank you for your free gift of righteousness upon my soul, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: Your daily confession of sin doesn’t take away sin but your belief in Christ.

THE MIRACULOUS (3)

“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5

LIGHT FOR NOW: As believers, we have a part to play in the miraculous.

A vital faith we must take note of is that miracles are in Christianity; you cannot remove miracles outside of Christianity, because the miraculous is part of Christianity. God’s power is not magic, and magic is not God’s power; therefore, miracle is not magic. Luke 1:34-35 “Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God”. Therefore, Mary had a part to play in the miraculous. In Luke 1:37, “For with God nothing shall be impossible”; the word “nothing” in Luke 1:37 is the word “rhema” in the Greek; which is God’s word communicated in the prophets’ utterance that was yet to fulfill. Actually, what the angel was saying is “no word of God is void of ability” or “no word of God lacks the ability”. In other words, God speaks before he does; he will speak then you will receive it. God works by his word: God speaks then he acts; He doesn’t act then he speaks. Therefore, the incarnation did not just happen; a woman believed it and received it. Mary believed and received, she said “be it unto me according to thy word”; she believed and that is how God works.

A miracle does not preclude or exclude your participation. Man is involved in what God does. Look at all the miracles Jesus did when it had to do with men and resources (men put water in the jar, a boy gave five loaves of bread and two fishes), there is something somebody did. There was no magic, it wasn’t like a show. God is a convincing God; He will not just change men; He wants to change all men and give them the new birth but men have to believe it and receive it. It shows you he doesn’t just act; men have to be convinced by what he does. Many times as a believer, you must learn to persist in faith stand strong. Truth is, every time you refuse to give or help to people in need when you have the capacity, you refuse to allow somebody to be helped by God through you. Doing this show you don’t understand that you have a love nature; a nature that does not have bad motives but just to get people’s needs met. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Be the miracle that someone needs.

CONFESSION: As God is meeting someone’s needs through me, I have to be persuaded, I have to yield to his spirit and do his word; I must choose not to give up, I must stay in faith. Through this, my needs are met, my bills are paid, God’s power is working on my behalf, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: No word of God is void of ability.
