LIGHT FOR NOW: The divine nature introduces a new governing principle into the believer’s life. No longer ruled by the law of sin and death, we now live under the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
One of the most liberating truths of the New Testament is that the believer is no longer governed by the old order; a new law now operates within him. Paul declares: “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death”. Notice that Paul speaks of two laws. The first is “the law of sin and death”. The second is “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus”. The word “law” here comes from the Greek word nomos. While it can refer to the Mosaic Law, it also carries the idea of a governing principle, a controlling power, or a consistent operating force.
Paul is describing two opposing spiritual principles. The law of sin and death governed humanity in Adam. It produced spiritual death; separation from God; bondage to sin; and ultimately physical death. Every descendant of Adam was born under this governing principle. No amount of human effort could permanently free mankind from its power. Then came Christ. Through His death, burial, and resurrection, a new governing principle was introduced: The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. This is the operating power of the divine life within every believer.
Just as the law of gravity consistently pulls objects downward, the law of the Spirit of life consistently works within the believer to produce righteousness, holiness, and victory. Consider an airplane. By the law of gravity alone, it should remain on the ground. Yet another law, the law of aerodynamics enables it to rise above gravity. Gravity has not ceased to exist, but a higher law has overcome its effect. Likewise, the presence of the flesh does not mean the believer must remain under its dominion. A higher law is now at work. The divine life within us continually empowers us to live above the tyranny of sin.
This is why Paul confidently says: “Hath made me free”. Freedom is not merely a future expectation; it is a present reality. The believer is no longer a helpless slave to sin; he possesses a new life, a new power, and a new nature. This does not mean temptation disappears. Nor does it mean believers become incapable of making wrong choices. Rather, it means sin is no longer their master. The divine nature has introduced a superior power.
The Holy Spirit now works within us, enabling us to live in a manner pleasing to God. This truth changes how we view the Christian life. We are not struggling under an impossible burden. We are responding to the life already at work within us. The divine nature does not merely command righteousness; it empowers righteousness. It does not merely expose sin; it supplies victory over sin. Therefore, whenever you face temptation, do not focus on the strength of the temptation. Focus on the greater power of the Spirit of life within you. The law of the Spirit of life has not become weaker. It remains the active, victorious principle operating in every believer who walks by faith.
Today, refuse to think like one still bound by the old order. You have been transferred into a new realm. The life of Christ governs you. The Spirit of God empowers you. And the divine nature continually enables you to walk in the freedom that Christ has secured. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: Whenever temptation or discouragement confronts you today, remind yourself that you are no longer under the dominion of sin. Depend upon the Holy Spirit and consciously walk according to the life of Christ within you.

I declare that I am no longer ruled by the old nature but by Your divine life within me. Strengthen me by Your Spirit to walk daily in the liberty, holiness, and victory that belong to me in Christ, in Jesus’ name, Amen. Glory!
