LIGHT FOR NOW: The ultimate purpose of the divine nature is not merely that we possess God’s life, but that we progressively reflect God’s Son. The Father’s goal is Christ revealed in us.
Every manufacturer designs a product with a specific purpose. Likewise, God did not save us without a definite intention. Salvation is not merely about escaping hell; neither is it merely about going to heaven. It is about becoming increasingly like Christ. Paul writes: “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son”.
Notice the emphasis. The Father’s eternal purpose is not simply that believers receive blessings. His purpose is that they be conformed to the image of His Son. The word “conformed” comes from the Greek word symmorphos, meaning to have the same form, to be fashioned after, or to bear the likeness of another. This is the Father’s grand design. The believer has received the life of Christ through the new birth. Now that life is to be increasingly expressed in character, conduct, and conviction. This is why Jesus is not merely our Saviour; He is also our perfect pattern.
The Christian life is not the imitation of Christ by human effort. It is the manifestation of Christ by divine life. There is a great difference. Imitation is external. Manifestation is internal. An actor may imitate another person for a season. But only a son naturally expresses the family likeness because he shares the family life. Likewise, believers reflect Christ because they partake of His life. This is why Paul boldly declared: “Christ liveth in me”. He understood that the Christian life is Christ expressing Himself through the believer.
This truth also explains why spiritual growth is not measured merely by knowledge. A person may possess great biblical information and yet fail to reflect Christ’s humility, Christ’s compassion, Christ’s patience, Christ’s love. True maturity is measured by Christlikeness. As believers grow in the knowledge of God’s Word, the Holy Spirit continually shapes them into the image of Christ. The more we behold Him, the more we resemble Him. This process is not always instantaneous.
Just as a child gradually grows into adulthood, believers progressively mature in expressing the divine nature. There are moments of rapid growth; there are seasons of testing; there are times of pruning. But through it all, the Father is accomplishing one purpose: To reveal His Son in us. This should completely change how we view life’s circumstances. Even difficult seasons are not wasted. The Father uses them to deepen our trust; refine our character; strengthen our faith; and produce greater conformity to Christ.
Nothing in the believer’s life is meaningless when viewed through the Father’s eternal purpose. One day, this work will be complete. The image that began at the new birth will be perfectly manifested in glory. Until then, every day is another opportunity to allow the divine nature within us to shine more brightly. Remember this: God’s highest goal is not merely to improve your circumstances. His highest goal is to reveal Christ through your life. And that is the greatest evidence that you are a partaker of the divine nature. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION: Father, thank You for predestining me to be conformed to the image of Your Son. Continue Your transforming work in my life. Let Christ be seen in my thoughts, my words, my attitudes, and my actions. May Your divine nature find full expression through me, in Jesus’ name, Amen. Glory!
