LIGHT FOR NOW: The divine nature is a nature of liberty. God did not impart His life to leave you in bondage but to bring you into the glorious freedom of sonship.
One of the beautiful results of becoming a partaker of the divine nature is liberty. The Christian life is not a life of bondage; it is a life of freedom. Not the freedom to live carelessly; but the freedom to live as God originally intended. Paul speaks of “the glorious liberty of the children of God”. Notice that he does not merely call it liberty; he calls it glorious liberty. This is because the freedom Christ gives is unlike any freedom the world can offer.
The world defines freedom as doing whatever one desires. But the Bible presents a much higher definition. True freedom is the ability to live according to God’s nature without being enslaved by sin. Before the new birth, humanity lived under what Paul calls “the bondage of corruption”. The word “corruption” comes from the Greek word phthora, meaning decay, ruin, destruction, or moral corruption. It describes the condition of everything affected by Adam’s fall.
Sin does not merely make a man guilty, it corrupts, it destroys, and it enslaves. This is why Jesus declared: “Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin”. Sin always promises liberty but produces bondage. Christ, however, does the opposite. He calls us into His service, yet His service brings true freedom. Why? It is because His life liberates. When you became born again, you did not merely receive a new destination. You received a new dominion. The power that once ruled over your life was broken. The chains of spiritual death were shattered. You were transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear Son.
This is why Paul constantly addresses believers as free people. Not because temptation has disappeared; but because sin has lost its mastery. The believer may still be tempted. He may still stumble if he fails to walk in the Spirit. But temptation is no longer his master. The divine nature within him continually inclines him toward righteousness. Consider a fish, it thrives in water because that is the environment suited to its nature; place it on dry land, and it struggles.
Likewise, the believer has received a new nature that thrives in the atmosphere of righteousness, truth, holiness, and fellowship with God. Sin has become foreign to who he truly is. This explains the inward conviction believers experience when they disobey God. The discomfort is not merely guilt. It is the divine nature refusing to be comfortable in what contradicts its character. The Holy Spirit lovingly draws the believer back into fellowship because that is where the new nature flourishes. This is why the Christian life should never be viewed merely as keeping rules. It is the joyful expression of the life we have received. The more we walk in fellowship with Christ, the more His liberty is experienced in our daily lives.
Today, remember that you are no longer defined by the chains of your past. You are a child of God. You have received His life. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Walk in that liberty. Guard that liberty. And let that liberty glorify the Father. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: Do not allow old habits, past failures, or condemning thoughts to convince you that you are still in bondage. Stand firmly in the liberty Christ has given you and walk accordingly.
CONFESSION: Father, thank You for bringing me into the glorious liberty of Your children. I declare that I am no longer a slave to sin, fear, or condemnation. Your divine life has made me free, and I choose to walk daily in the freedom and victory that are mine, in Jesus’ name, Amen. Glory!
