KNOWING YOURSELF IN CHRIST (8)

I thank my God, making mention of thee in my prayers, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints; that the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus – Philemon 1:4-6

LIGHT FOR NOW: The only book where Christ is revealed and the believer in him is the bible.

Most of us grew up hearing and singing this song: “Read your bible, pray every day; if you want to grow”. But truth is, so many folks just stop at singing that song or having a nice time with that song, but they don’t act on that song. That is why we are struggling or suffering from identity crisis. Growth in your Christian walk can never be outside the knowledge of God’s written word. There is no book in the world that God has given to us to know Christ outside the bible. And there is no book in this world God has given to us to know ourselves outside the bible. All of God’s revelation from eternity past to eternity future has been communicated in a written document called the bible. Any attempt on your part to know God outside the written word will land you in error. In other words, all you ever need to know about yourself as a believer is in a book called the bible. The message of this book is a person and you are in this person. So to know yourself, then you will have to know this person and to know this person, you will have to read this book. You will not know Jesus by head knowledge; you will not know Jesus by academic knowledge; logic does not have what it takes to reveal Jesus to you. Experiences, feelings and hearsays cannot be relied upon where the revelation of Christ is concerned. Same way you will not know Jesus by head knowledge, you will not know yourselves also by head knowledge because you are in Christ. Same way academic knowledge doesn’t reveal Christ, academic knowledge cannot also reveal the man in Christ. Same way Jesus cannot be revealed by logic, man’s logic can’t reveal the man in Christ. Don’t forget one of the implication of the word “identity” is sameness or oneness; so what cannot reveal Jesus cannot reveal me. The written word is the only revelation of Christ that I have and so the only revelation of myself that I have is in Christ in the written word. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Read your bible!!!

PRAYER: I am a student, committed to the learning of your word forever, in Jesus Name.  Amen.
