“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”– Romans 3:19-24
LIGHT FOR NOW: The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus was the fulfillment of the laws’ requirement.
In 2 Corinthians chapter 3, Paul says this in verse 12 “Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech”. The dark manner of communication and shadows of the law is explained in Christ in simplicity; this was exactly how Jesus explained the scriptures of the law and prophets to his Apostles after his resurrection. Luke 24:44-47 “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem”.
Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection matched up with the demands of the law and prophecies of the prophets of the law. The outcome of this fulfillment is that all races, tribes and nations of men can now access repentance and remission of sins. This is exactly the same thing Paul spoke later on in his epistles, as earlier mentioned. Repentance is a change in mindset about Jesus, and remission is freedom from sin and its consequences. It’s the benefit of that change in mindset. Hence, this is faith given through the gospel of Christ. Glory!
