“And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.” – Mark 11:11-14
LIGHT FOR NOW: The born-again man does not have a faith problem. He is not lacking faith; he has all the faith he will ever need.
The words eternal, once and for all, forever are often used by the authors of the Epistles to characterize that which we have in Christ. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. The writer of Hebrews has this to say: Hebrews 5:9 “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him”; Hebrews 9:12 “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us”; Hebrews 9:15 “And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance”; Hebrews 10:10, 12, 14 “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Verse 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Verse 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified”.
John also in his writings: John 3:16, 36 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Verse 36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him”; John 5:24 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him”; John 6:47 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life”; 1John 2:25 “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life”; 1John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God”. This, therefore, means that since the believer has received faith once and for all at salvation, he has all the faith he would ever need. Glory!
